You're right about the smallcaps being beaten up pretty badly but AMAT still remains a darling of wall street. How many times have you seen it mentioned as "top 10 stocks of the future" or "So-and-so brokerage's buy list" etc? There is no way AMAT deserves to be priced at a premium to the 1996 lows. Why is priced so high? Because of the optimism about "being at the bottom of the cycle." People know that as soon as any good news comes out, AMAT will rocket up in a hurry. I don't think we're even close to reaching a bottom in sentiment about AMAT.
