>>> Which drive has Win95 and which one Win98? How did you install Win98?<<<
I first started with one IDE hard drive, the master on the primary channel, and did a new installation of Window 98. The BIOS labelled this drive as drive C. I then
#reply-5868297 Sean W. Smith 2712 OS/2 BM can boot an OS on ANY HD in your system.
#reply-5873716 Zeuspaul 2713 I don't know if it was Windows or the BIOS that changed the active status on my primary partition on drive C and I am not going to worry about it any more.
>>> Was this a one time occurrence? Do you have to use FDISK every time you go from disk two to disk one?<<<
To my knowledge the bios boot selection procedure is not a standard procedure. There may be drawbacks...
#reply-5876729 Howard R. Hansen 2714 >>> Was this a one time occurrence? Do you have to use FDISK every time you go from disk two to disk one?<<<
I tried the disk 2 disk 1 boot up sequence two times. Both times I had to use Fdisk to make the primary partition on Disk one active to enable

Yes the using a boot manager is superior in every aspect to the switching in the BIOS. I think if you tried it you would agree.
#reply-5881175 Clarence Dodge 2716 Concerning KOT.....are there any particular advantages/disadvantages to having a master and slave on one channel as opposed to using both channels..one drive each?
#reply-5882939 Zeuspaul 2717 I had a little trouble setting up all of the drives to work in both operating systems, particularly
#reply-5883050 Zeuspaul 2718 I would make the primary harddrive the master and the KOT drive the slave on the same channel. The CDROM would then
#reply-5884884 Sean W. Smith 2719 your confusing MS's futile attempt at a bootmanager to a real boot manager. OS/2 BM will do everything you can do in the BIOS setup easier.

#reply-5891359 Zeuspaul 2722 >>Deskstar 6.4= master and 8.4= slave. Do you think 2gig margin is enough?<<
That's a good question. Ideally the margin would be more.
I would start with a small 300 MB+/- partition on the primary
#reply-5892088 Clarence Dodge 2723 Maybe I should go with the smaller Maxtor 2880 @ 5.7gb primary and the Deskstar 8.4 KOT. I really will be only using NT,the
#reply-5893402 Zeuspaul 2724 would consider performance specs for the primary drive and size for the KOT. I am not up on the latest specs. A 7200 RPM 4GB+
#reply-5894210 Sean W. Smith 2725 or you can use bootmanager and not worry about and have more flexilibty all at the same time. You ought to read up on it before you dismiss it.
#reply-5901009 Zeuspaul 2727 I do not think we are talking about the same thing. A boot manager is resident on the harddrive. If the harddrive fails so does the boot manager. I
#reply-5902487 Zeuspaul 2731 >>>Is a bootmanager included in WinNT<<<
Yes. Assuming an existing Win95 or DOS installation, the NT installation will recognize the existing OS and give you the option to set up multiboot.

#Reply-5922452 Dave Bisset 2761 First, re: partitions, could you explain why it's a good idea to partition the OS separately? And also possibly partitioning data and apps
#Reply-5929033 Sean W. Smith 2763 ZP, your absolutely right here. I wasn't considering the primary HD failure so you do need your BIOS boot ability for those circumstances. for all other normal circumstances the Boot manager will suffice and make switching much easier.
#Reply-5929152 Sean W.Smith 2764 MS's boot manager isn't really a boot manager. The Real boot managers for PC are:
