<< Your correct, but what was Nixon covering up and what is Clinton? They are worlds apart>>
Without going into the details of your post here, I believe you missed my point. I am not comparing the Nixon issues to the Clinton issues, only the way the two parties are reacting. IMHO, there is no more partisanship now than there was then. That is the only point I was making. People just don't remember how bitterly partisan the Nixon hearings were at first, because the tone changed so drastically once it became obvious that Nixon had actually done something demonstrably wrong. The tone with the Clinton hearings is the same as it was for the Nixon hearings in the beginning. If something that was the equivalent of the Nixon tapes turned up now, you would see the Democrats suddenly turn on Clinton, and the hearings would become bipartisan, just as it happened in the Nixon hearings. Had there been no Nixon tapes, the hearings then would likely have stayed partisan, and there would have been no removal of Nixon from office because nothing could be proven. I am not commenting at all on Clinton's actions or the possible consequences, only commenting on the similarities between the two hearings.
I would love to read your opinion on this topic, but if at all possible, without any reference to how evil Nixon was compared to Clinton. I am looking at a comparison of how the Republicans are running the hearings as opposed to how the Democrats ran theirs in the 70's. |
