" Stock values are not dollars although quoted in them. They are tradeable commodities producing valuable goods and services. Another cell phone produced is an increase in the world's wealth as pointed out. " I just can't buy that (I don't have the money anymore!) Money DOES disappear when stock prices decline. A stock price is an asset that corporations utilize to grow (through secondary offerings, executive options in lieu of salary for cash-strapped technology companies etc.) Sometimes it can spell the difference between a going concern and bankruptcy. ps- AND when they go belly-up the money has disappeared FOREVER.
