Brian:

In QCOM's early days, their slogan was "communicating without limits". With this as their vision, I think it may have fit. A few years back, their slogan changed to "we are building the wireless world" - which may be why you question the Eudora fit.

They actually aquired the rights to Eudura because they were looking for a more effective way to communicate w/in their own business. The outside (2nd party) application was an aftersight - but has obviosly become quite popular. I believe Alex Brown estimates that Eudura revenues are around 2-3 million per quarter.

As far as a wireless and text merge how about PDA's and the data capabilities of PCS? There is talk about being able to send and recieve E-Mail, faxes and data via your PCS phone. Eudora is currenly used on the Newton (which has a wireless interface available).

I believe , however, that QCOM may be preparing to spin this product segment off. Recent literature from Eudura and QCOM have begun to draw a line between the two. Eudura's new look has "A Qualcomm Division" at the bottom, a reference I have not seen previosly, and as far as I know, they do not refer to Omnitracs, QPE, CDMA, or their ASIC's line as divisions of the company.

Good Luck to All!
