I think they got close to 20% PC share in Q3. They probably need less than 4.5 million units per qtr to keep 20% in 1999. (Base on IDC forecasts). And just as scary, if they're demand limited, they'll bomb prices. Volume is more important to AMD, I think.

<Even though PC's outsell servers by a magnitude, the revenue per sale exceeds PC's also by a magnitude. Servers are significant to Intel and will be the principle engine for revenue growth for at least the next two years.>

But what's unclear to me, how many servers will continue to be PII based? I think we'd be surprised at how many PII's go into servers right now. And as Intel add's cache to PII, they become even more viable to the server market. That's also what AMD is planning with the next generations.

Everyone seems to agree servers are important, but I wonder if we don't know a lot more about the PC market than the server market.
