Re: 124yen/$ WILL affect earnings I think because of the fact that they have those fabs in Japan and price in yen + have costs in yen the net effect on earnings is 0. However, revenues will definitely look much better! (In addition LSI does the currency swap things.)
RE: but then, if they are losing money in Japan biz, then ...... Nope they won't - the beauty of having those fabs in Japan and the pricing for Japanese customers in yen for the most part - so the Japanese customers see the beneficial effects of the stronger yen.
From AMD release re PC and general industry slump: ''We see the PC market as pretty strong,'' AMD chairman W.J. Sanders III told analysts on a conference call, adding that the company has seen strong demand in the U.S., Europe and Asia.
''The worst is behind us,'' Sanders said, when asked about the general semiconductor industry slump. ''Although we don't see a general upturn, I don't think we are in for a worse environment.''

Good thing about the dollar plunge is that first and foremost Japan has to get their economy in order for the world economies to get going and the first thing that is needed there is to get their banks stronger - which supposedly they have started doing (but I have heard this one before!). Yet this was a plunge for Mr. $ alright!

Shane (Boy but I did think AMD would be up strongly today! Completely wrong. Thought that there may be a pop for a few days before reality set in (the INTC newer chips factor). My contention is to never bet against Mr. Big Bully Intel - must the new INTC chip pipeline?)
Saw your note about the $99 PlayStation. That is quite interesting! So thread speculation may indeed be true - inventory reduction now to get ready for next chip - very very interesting... Oct. 14, LSI's earnings announcement day is also the publication date for CVG when all will be revealed... even more interesting...Plus DreamCast is coming out November 27 - bet that Sony wants to put a damper on that by doing some FUD or indeed actually releasing PSX II.
Finally for the LSI people, networking is coming back in a big way - so you do know what that means <wink>. |
