Indeed the double boiler was used. Bacon of course would increase the nutritional content of such a low calorie meal.

Ahhh, bacon. My mother kept a 3lb. coffee tin full of bacon grease on the back of the stove. There was never any need for vegetable oil in her cooking. A quick flick of the spatula and the pan was greased.
