Chris Matthews of "Hardball" used to be a
speachwriter for Jimmy Carter. The animosity
between Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter goes
way back to 1980 when Carter allowed thousands
of Cuban refugees (ie Hard core criminals from
Castro's prison system) into the United States.
Carter did not know what do with the massive
crime wave that occured in South Florida after
the boatlift so he sent about 2,000 of these
Cuban nasties to Arkansas. The prisoners started
to riot about every day and the flack caught
Bill Clinton off guard, and he actually lost
the reelection bid in his opinion, because of
Jimmy Carter's policies on the Cubans. Chris
Matthews walks a fine line between protecting
the Democrats, his old boss, and helping old
Bill Clinton. On a personal level, Clinton and
Carter dislike each other. Politics makes for
strange bedfellows...
