Mantos are one of the hydrothermal ore-forming systems. The term has been translated by stratum, skarn, chimney, or brecchia pipe depending on the shape and the geological context. Those formations have been first identified in Latin America, thus the Spanish term.

Mantos are stratigraphically confined, hydrothermally altered ore units. Those gold host rocks occur most often between an overlying andesite or rhyolite sequence and underlying andesite sequence in close proximity to contact areas related to multiple intrusive events and volcanic stratigraphy. Both the overlying and underlying andesites are seldom mineralized in manto form but are known to host mineralization in near vertical structures or hydrothermal feeder zones.
