1) Options recently vested and/or
2) Bad news coming and/or
3) An announcement of a takeover or purchase. Usually there is a lock up period after an acquisition or, of course, after being taken over."

How about the most obvious reason of all:

4)The stock was at highs that have not been seen for a year and it was a good time to sell and lock in some profits in a nervous market. I am sure that many long-term longs also sold off some of their position.
