    SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 7, 1998--Sony Electronics unveiled the newest member of its Voice File(tm) digital recorders with advanced features to help users increase productivity and record longer voice messages, notes or audio e-mails, at a pre-Fall COMDEX '98 briefing.
    The ICD-80 palm-sized portable device provides up to 48 minutes of recording time, enabling users to communicate effectively in the office or on the go.
    "By combining digital technology with innovative product design, we can offer our highest performing IC chip recorder yet," said Bob Nell, vice president of personal audio marketing for Sony Electronics. "The ICD-80 recorder is an ideal tool for just about anyone who needs to keep track of important ideas and information as well as communicate with others by sending audio files by e-mail."
    In addition to the current ICD-70 recorder, the ICD-80 expands Sony's line of Voice File digital recorders that can be upgraded to interface with a PC. With optional Wav Link(tm) software(1) and a connection cable, users are able to download recorded messages to their PC and store them as Wav files, or e-mail the messages to someone else. The person receiving the e-mail will hear the message in the sender's own voice.

    Sony's ICD-80 Voice File digital recorder will be available later this month at a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $249.95. The accessory kit (ICKIT-W1), which includes the Wav Link software and connection cable, is $69.95. The ICD-70PC, which includes the Wav Link software and PC connection cable, is available now at a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $249. The ICD-70 stand-alone unit is $199.
