Hi Buzz, regarding your post on natural gas for power generation, most of the installations are combustion turbines, some of the cogenerators have a steam generator connected to the outlet for process or heating steam. Some use natural gas torches in place of coal burners or to burn refuse derived fuel. They are actually a utility managers dream compared to large coal or nuclear installations. Low capital cost, little as far as staffing requirements, flexible in operation. The fuel costs are much higher but who cares, you can pass that on to the customer in a fuel clause adjustment. Incidently in the cogen field, another stock I am high on is NRG Generation. They are 42% owned by a company called NRG which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Northern States Power (a big upper midwestern utility). They have some pretty detailed filings at the SEC Edgar site if you are interested. One related question I have, what is driving the drop in natural gas futures contracts that we are seeing? Traditional seasonal drop or something else? Mark my words, one day we will see as high a demand for gas in the summer as winter!
