The higher up the mountain side, the higher the heat source closer to the top of the mountain, the higher the heat source at the top of the mountain, the higher the heat source in the mountain, the deeper the heat source can travel before cooling. The greater the likelihood of higher gold at the surface

If the carbonates are well down the side the mountain, the lesser chance of high heat at the top of the mountain, the lesser the chance for higher grades of gold at the top of the mountain!
