VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--Dayton Mining Corporation (TSE, AMEX:
DAY) is pleased to announce that its Andacollo Gold Mine located
in central Chile produced a record 25,076 ounces of gold, at a
cash operating cost of US$226 per ounce, for the quarter ending
September 30, 1998. This represents the highest quarterly gold
production since the Mine began commercial production in January
1996.

Bill Myckatyn, Chairman, President and CEO states, "I am very
encouraged with the results we are achieving at Andacollo. The
management of Dayton and Andacollo have worked hard to resolve the
operational issues encountered earlier in the year and are pleased
to see these efforts paying off. Andacollo is on target to
produce slightly over 91,000 ounces of gold for 1998 at a cash
operating cost of US$235 per ounce. Our objective is to develop
the potential of Andacollo with increased production and lower
operating cash costs going forward."

Dayton is forecasting production of 145,000 ounces of gold for
1999 at an average cash operating cost of US$210 per ounce.

Dayton Mining Corporation holds a 100 percent interest in the
Andacollo Gold Mine located in central Chile, and trades on both
the American Stock Exchange (AMEX) and Toronto Stock Exchange
(TSE) under the trading symbol DAY.
