I think we agree about the symptoms, but not about the cure, so it's probably best to just agree to disagree. As I see it, free trade is how the US got to be "the fittest" in the first place, and imitating the policies that have failed so miserably in Asia is not the way to maintain that position.

I unfortunately can't find the source, but I believe some economists and historians blame protectionism for the severity of the Great Depression. Anyone able to help me out?
