Tomorrow the House votes on whether to authorize the Judiciary committee to undertake an impeachment inquiry. The Republican majority is a strange group. They are totally offended because President Clinton had a sexual affair, but in other matters concerned with male sexuality, they are gung ho. For instance: Last week the U.S. House side tracked a $26 billion bill to finance the Treasury Department, Postal Service, and White House because part of it expanded health-insurance for federal employees to include contraceptives, which assist women with family planning. But, Federal insurance now covers Viagra, at $10 a pop, to treat male impotence. No one in Congress thought a second about the request for an extra $50 million to cover the cost of supplying Viagra to troops and military retirees. And, a $57 billion farm bill was stalled in order to bar the Food and Drug Administration from approving any drug that induces abortion. The Republicans want to outlaw a wide spectrum of drugs with abortion-inducing side effects, including drugs for cancer and heart disease. Also a $12.5 billion foreign-aid and an $18 billion International Monetary Fund appropriation cut off U.S. funds to international family-planning agencies.
So congress will spend millions and millions of dollars so that men can enjoy sex, but when it comes to the fundamental right of women to enjoy sex, plan the birth of their children, or decide whether to have an abortion, the Republican Congress screams NO! The Republican Congress has voted 71 times to cut or curb family-planning and abortion rights and services. So, as far as the Republican Congress is concerned: For men, sex is good, right, even worthy of spending large amounts of taxpayer dollars. For women, sex is a right to be exercised only to produce children. The question for the voters this November: Do we want these types of selfish, narrow minded politicians to take over this country?
