area of research for me.....the SCSI Adapter w/ boot target ID select.

I believe all of the add on Adaptec AHA 2940 series adaptec.com SCSI adapters have boot target ID. I asked on several forums about boot target ID with onboard Adaptec controllers and got no response. Since they share the bios with the mobo my guess is the on board controllers do not have boot target ID.

Mylex mylex.com has some interesting controllers. I see them as harddrive managers. The RAID controllers are of particular interest. I downloaded and read several of their manuals. If I understand correctly one has the ability to select individual drives on the controller or one can select a group of drives acting as one (RAID) as the boot drive. Some of the controllers have large caches. Their is a large price range.

Adaptec also has RAID controllers. At the time I checked into them they only ran in NT. The Mylex controllers are supported by a lot of different OSes including NT and Win95/98.

Another interesting option is the promise.com FastTrack IDE RAID controller. We discussed it in some earlier posts. home.att.net
DR WHOM used the controller to select IDE boot drives

DPT has SCSI controllers and SCSI RAID controllers dpt.com I never found a boot selection option in their literature. The site has good SCSI info.
