Yeah, I know from experience that the Left never likes to be held accountable. Just look at how quickly Bill Clinton takes credit for his behavior. My friends David Horowitz and Lloyd Billingsley have both written eloquently on the subject of the psychology of the Left, reflecting on their own years of radical activism.

Yes, and "What the American Bund wanted was quite irrelevant. The Nazis were there, in control, they had won." In both cases the statements are literally true, and in both cases the statements beg the question. The question is support of criminal regimes, not responsibility for their rise to power.
What the American left wanted is highly relevant. They enthusiastically supported the Sandanista regime. There were organized tours that went to Nicaragua to work for the Revolution. There were groups in the States raising money to support the Sandanistas. Even Senator Moynihan objected to the activities of one of these groups, headed by Ed Asner. But then maybe the old Democratic Senator from New York was as out of touch as professor Kirkpatrick. Like Kirkpatrick, he didn't understand that violations of political and human rights don't count if the offending regime is on the Left. The fault, if any, is someone else's. |
