What a lovely dance of semantics. Call "it" God, the Creator, the Animating Force, a Higher Power, the Tao, the Unnameable One . . . whatever. "Why then are you so surprised that there are some atheists who choose to label it in some other way, or not to label it at all?"
1. I have yet to hear you or any atheist label "it" in any other way. Check the last few weeks posts. 2. " . . .or not label it, at all". Could you at least offer a definition of "it"? If you say "it" is the ineffable, and you don't want to call "it" God, what general concept are you saying you're unable to describe? I submit that general concept is the concept of a deity, and if you affirm "it", but allow for "it" being ineffable, it would appear you're not an atheist afterall.
Do you believe an ineffable force exists in the universe? Do people tend to attach words to concepts--even concepts they admit they can't adequately describe with words? (Love, for example.) If my synonym for an affirmative ineffable concept is not the same as your's, does that invalidate the concept?
