Yahoo provides the page-view data. I don't think they're manipulating the data (they don't include Yahoo Mail, for example), but that wouldn't prevent them from hitting their own site. They hit their own site in the normal course of programming it, for example. It would take only one disgruntled employee to blow the whistle on abuse like you mention, so I don't think the risk is worth it. Their credibility would be shot, and that would be disastrous.

Considering (I haven't listened to the conference call...visiting Mom) that Yahoo is 15% sold out, their page view count is running ahead of the Internet advertising market anyway.

Advertisers only care about results anyway, and they know specifically where every response originates. That's what counts.
