ABS players send SOS to Fed during conference

HAMILTON PARISH, Bermuda, Oct 8 (Reuters ) - Now that global financial turmoil has helped push the Federal Reserve to a slight easing of interest rates, some players in asset-backeds have a further request: Save our credit market.

In the meantime, said Kirk, the ''bond market'' will remain something of a misnomer. ''To the degree we maintain this flat curve, spreads are going to stay as wide as they are -- until we see some type of fed ease. (Otherwise) you're not being paid to own bonds, and they're not bonds anymore, they're commodities.'' He added that, with the market swarming with rumors these days fueled by bankruptcies and hedge fund problems, ''they're commodities that are going to trade on fear.''
