I think there in an excess of paranoia developing here. One sure way you can be traced is with a court order in hand. I would find it extremely unlikely that SI or any reputable ISP or Internet site would voluntarily give out such information without a court order. I suppose that if a federal agency showed up with strong evidence that a fraud or other crime had been committed, they might volunteer the info without the court order. But the fact that such evidence existed would almost certainly be enough for a court order.

If someone has the connections and/or the skill, they can almost certainly backtrack your Internet trail. There are relatively few that have those attributes, and fewer still that would use them for dubious purposes.

The bottom line: Practice Safe Surfing. Be careful, but keep the paranoia in check.
