To All--Recently my husband and I have spent some time considering the public health aspects of ureliable water and sewer service. I have a background in municipal public policy, he has a background in the pharm. industry. As many of you know the development of sanitary systems has done more to increase life expectancy than the advent of antibiotic drugs. I think we can safely assume that a breakdown in sanitary systems will decrease our life expectancy quickly and dramatically. Safe water storage, filtration and treatment will provide some protection. But, I have noticed in my web travels that few are thinking about human waste disposal. Those who are (those without access to septic systems) have primitive plans that might very well pollute a local water supply for some time to come. We also must consider that a sewage treatment plant under the stress of an embedded chip shut down or lack of electric service might manually dump raw sewage. Remember, modern sanitary systems are completely dependent on electric service. (Gravity plays a very small part in the movement of sh*t even though we've all been assured it flows downhill.)

Within the next month or so we have decided to begin a series of vaccinations of the type those traveling to Third World countries might receive. We do not want to discuss this in any detail with the physician or his staff as to the real reason why we are doing this for obvious reasons . If any of you have traveled abroad recently (within the last two years or so) I would appreciate a discussion of where you traveled and which vaccinations you received. My web research begins shortly on this. I will post info and links if the thread expresses an interest. Thanks in advance, "flatsville"
