Highlights from todays H&Q Spot Report:

"Strategic importance: taking Intel's lead, AMD clearly saw the need to integrate Rambus-based technology in its microprocessor roadmap. As multimedia and communications applications become more significant in the PC, exponential increases in memory bandwith become necessary, and this level of performance can only be provided by Rambus.

All major x86 vendors lining up: With the official announcement from AMD, Rambus now has 95% of the x86 CPU market for PC's available to penetrate. This serves as yet another point of validation and increasing evidence that Rambus will become the de facto PC main memory standard starting in 1999. Additionally, we believe National Semiconductor (Cyrix) may have plans to integrate Direct Rambus technology into its next-generation CPU's during 1999 as well

Estimates and recommendation: While we are not changing our estimates at this time, we believe that the AMD announcement suggest that our FY'00 assumtions are conservative. Although we anticipated an announcement of this type from AMD, we have not yet modeled any sort of ramp of K7 CPU's into our FY'00 royalty estimates for Rambus. When more detail regarding AMD's plans for K7 become available we will reassess our model. With increasing evidence that the PC industry is trasitioning to Rambus we feel fundamental support for the technology has never been greater, and thus, reiterate our Buy rating on the stock."
