The following is from Amati's Home page amati.com Are there some new names here? And what is Amati's role in cable modems?

--------
Amati Communications Corporation is a leading developer of advanced transmission equipment utilizing Discrete Multi-tone Technology (DMT) for the Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL), Very High-Speed Digital Subscriber Line (VDSL) and cable modem markets. Amati is the holder of multiple DMT patents and has licensed the technology to companies such as Nortel and Motorola (ADSL) and NEC (VDSL). Amati's DMT technology has been selected by both the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the European Telecommunications Standard Institute (ETSI) as the standard for development of ADSL equipment.

Amati is actively promoting the Discrete Multi-tone technology for standardization as the VDSL design preference as well. Amati is providing equipment in tests of 2 Mbps and 4 Mbps video-on-demand (interactive video) services being offered by PTTs in Europe and the Asia-Pacific, with companies such as Philips, Italtel, Tadiran and NEC (AU). In addition, Amati is supporting the first 8 Mbps ADSL trial for combined data and video services with France Telecom. Amati is the supplier for all high-speed ADSL/DMT equipment in GTE's current Internet access trials in Washington and Texas.

Amati is also a provider of network connectivity systems for the internetworking and OEM marketplaces. The company's connectivity products include local area network gateways, client-based workstation software and network data communications interfaces.
