I think it means little, other than a bit of free advertising for Apple if the story makes CNN.

You can't just declare an operating system obsolete. IBM declared DOS obsolete in 1987, and said that from then on, OS/2 would be the only OS to use. Ha. Most SI posters live on the bleeding edge of computer tech -- easy to froget that there are millions of Macs sitting in public libraries or suburban family rooms or 5th grade classrooms, a huge installed base, and I doubt that those all go to the trash heap once one of the Steves says everyone should start using next os.

Summary: might be a lot there as far as hype and market psychology, but I doubt it means much either way as far as the bottom line. All imo, of course.
