You're hysterical. You have no idea what you are talking about. (And that comment wasn't even directed at me. It was just so ridiculous and uninformed that I had to respond.)

Take a look at the decline in the Dow from 1929 through 1932. Over 90%. Now don't respond by talking about average stocks in this decline. Average stocks then went down a LOT more also. As in many completely wiped out. Others down 95%, 98%, and more.

The proper way to compare percentage declines, esp. when they get very severe is to consider how much an average has to go back up to recover. A 50% decline requires a double. A 90% decline requires a 10x move to recover. A 90% decline is about twice as bad as a 50% decline. It's more than 5x as bad.

As of yesterday we had a 20% decline in the S&P and 17.5% in the Dow.

Stocks like WCII have done worse. If that's where all your retirement money has been. Well....
