Not true, if you mean that you must use AOL's inadequate network, in fact Meg of the AOL Insider has been encouraging people to go with the "bring your own access" plan to avoid busy signals, long distance charges to access numbers, etc.

It has been reported that AOL has been encouraging people to do this not just because of widespread connection (and disconnection) problems, but rather AOL's network costs are MUCH cheaper when you bring-your-own access. You can bet that if this alternative did not exist AOL would be in top spin mode denying problems they know exist.

However, the situation should ease as more become fed up and learn there are other, better and more reliable ways to connect to the Internet.

BTW, aren't you impressed by management that would initiate a massive advertising campaign AND flat fee price structure without first gearing up the infrastructure to handle demand they were in fact predicting?

Regards
