"Man by nature is a political animal" Aristotle

You think that Republican's will take the information that's already out there, and use it during the campaign.

If I was a Republican (I am either a Demopublican or Republicrat depending which side of the bed I fell off- I tried being a Demopubliterian but i didn't have enough freedom to go left or right) and running for office I would stress national and hometown issues , family, education and good judgement and make sure to hide my skeletons where the sun doesn't shine because the scrutiny would be immense for those who take the 'Holy-er than thou' platform in attacking Clinton's behavior. It's far better to let the poor Democrat answer for his political kind. Of course my constituents would have complete freedom in condemning the man's behavior because its America and by God, God Bless America! I have an urge to shake hands, wave flags and kiss babies. Also I would not attack Clinton because I would feel the Republicans will let him go after much embarrassment and back room bargaining and lameduck the rest of the term. Remember no one wants Gore - He is too weak as a leader for Democrats and too strong of change for Republicans.

the October Surprise
As far as a surprise. Its set up for it. And if particularly damaging then the focus would again be on Clinton instead of hometown issues for those in elections and besides national attention the local media would be scooping for the candidates reaction- usually given to national media. If not then more rhetoric.

This next Presidential election season would be the perfect opportunity for one of the non-candidates (either third party or someone in one of the big two that doesn't have the clout within the party) to take the high road and stress actions or policies that are for the good of the country, instead of for the good of special interests

Well yes a perfect opportunity for one but when the search is over they would find one probably playing poker with Santa Claus , the tooth fairy and a smart blonde.

Cynically ,I'll fold
