The land location of the well you were talking about is about 1 mile north and 8 miles west of the Imperial 2-21 discovery well. It is also 1.5 miles west and 4 miles north of Imperial's Quirk Creek gas plant. The land location system in Alberta works as follows the first number is the legal subdivision, next is the section, next is township, next is range and the final number the meridian. The forth meridian is the Alberta Saskatchewan boarder and the fifth meridian is 168 miles west of the forth and so on. Between the forth and fifth meridians there are 28 ranges(each range is 6 miles east to west). Townships go south to north and there are 126 of these(each township line is 6 miles south to north) between the Alberta Montana boarder and the North West Territories boarder. When you know the township number and the range number west of a specific meridian line, you have identified one township 6 miles by 6 miles. In each township there are 36 one square mile sections of land, each with their own section numbers 1 through 36. The S.E. section is # 1, the S.W. section is # 6, the N.W. section is # 31 and the N.E. section is # 36. The other section numbers can be determined by filling in between these sections starting with #1 and counting to the west and then back to the east. Each 1 square mile section of land is 640 acres and contains 16 legal subdivisions 40 acres in size. The legal subdivisions are numbered going west then east from the S.E. corner to the N.E. corner in the same manner as sections within a township. I hope this written explanation makes sense, this is really a case that needs a picture.
