That's always the risk. The odds are for the gap down to selloff. Another way to play gap ups is to put in a buy stop higher past the gap up to catch a run like you say. Generally it takes company or sector specific news to make that happen. If it keeps running, my buy to cover stop would get hit. I place buy to cover stops at the same place I'd put a buy stop order.

That's right, it depends on how sentiment builds this weekend, the overseas markets and the S&P Futures contract on monday. The odds are with me so far shorting a gap up on COMS. When the trend (3 day moving average) is up as opposed to the current down to flat--I look for gap downs to buy into instead. Just trade with the trend my friend. The flat trend we were left with after today made me make sure I didn't hold any position in COMS over the weekend.
