Thanks Chip. This helps a lot. I did want my desktop gamma to be 1.84 (my gray gamma is ~1.7 R=1.6, G=1.8, B=1.7). Seems like I'm out of luck :( my old card let me go as high as 3. Some large engineeing monitors (esp. as they age) have gamma's a large as 2.5. So 1.7 is too low. I use Display->properties->setting->advance to get to the driver's controls. I hope that's what you meant by the "Banshee" tab. It does have the desktop/glide/d3d gammas there. I will look for an adaptor tab to see how I can over ride the refresh rates. BTW what is the difference between 24bit color and 32bit? (please don't say 8 bits).

Thanks again
Sun Tzu
