Good point. I got an e-mail from the CEO of an 100 employee company who says they have expensive, custom program code that is filled with these bad date formats. He figures they'll probably do exactly as you said - trash the whole thing and buy new, Y2K certified new programs..and BTW, he's planning to buy CA this week, 'cause he sees those (CA, MSFT, ORCL, etc.) as main beneficiaries of Y2K.
But: I would not want to convert all the data in the banks and insurance companies into the new software. That will be very costly, and I'm not sure it will even be cheaper than using a Y2K "silver bullet" like MatriDigm's.
