NeXT got out of the hardware business many years ago, and has sold only their operating system and software since then. So the number of computers they've sold isn't really relevant.
It's hard to pin a number on the number of NeXT software seats out there since some people don't upgrade and it's hard to track old versions, but the general consensus is that it's in the 100,000 - 120,000 range. Not much compared to Apple's 26 million, but more than Amiga.
However in my opinion this doesn't reflect poorly on the technology, which is very good, but rather the abyssmal sales and marketing of the technology. This is exactly why the NeXT/Apple deal is a good one -- it gives Apple good technology, and gives NeXT some market share and marketability.
