Ummm, Prof Retiarius, I am just a humble liberal arts major, able to change the batteries in my HP-12C *FINANCIAL* calculator. i was aware that weird termination on charges were happening (see one of my recent posts on Arni's battery failures with his friend at RG). That is one reason why we need to find the complete text of the proceedings at EVS (first one wins: Don Devlin? Tom Hoff?). If Honda is doing it, have they patented it? (Prof. Retiarius miss a patent? huh?) Lord hopes not: that Retiarius has not missed a patent and that Honda hasn't patented this and that something like this is unpatentable.
Big sea changes have been happening in "formation" of NiMh, or initial charge and discharge cycling after manufacture. There are not so subtle differences with temperature. Catalysts are said to be available. Why, golly, even the humble separator between the electrodes seems to matter, but why bother messing with a lowly sheet of paper? With all these variables floating around in the INITIAL charges and discharges, its no wonder that someone has come up with a different everyday charge algorithm. Remember, Stan tells us this is the engineered battery and that engineering ain't half done. We've still got a waaaays to go on the theoretical capacity of NiMh.
Now if you could just explain to me what a derivative is doing inside a NiMh battery..... I thought that derivatives was what took down Long Term Capital in my home town....Gee, maybe the problems at LTCM had to do with heat, pressure, and circulation of electrolyte also.... |
