Metinks a lot of the buying pressure originated in Chicago and was transmitted via index arbitrage. Smaller stocks in S&P went in lockstep with that index. Lots of October puts were bought on Thursday. 1030 is critical level.

Monday we have no bond market grouches to inject the appropriate scare. Talking heads are declaring a bottom.
