With regards to your reasoning behind IDT's long term prospects - that's pretty much the very same case for the 1100 other CLECs. Actually, when one looks back at why many of the CLECs started, it was to take advantage of the time lag before the big guns got into the market, grab market share and then pray that they'd be bought out. However, due to market conditions, technological issues, cash, market hesitation to adopt these tiny players, etc., they haven't grown as much as they planned to. Then they get cocky and think they can build their own networks and do a better job of it than the big guys. Now, for some that might actually work since they won't have legacy networks bogging them down and can focus on the lucrative markets. As of now, IDT appears to be going that route. And their strategy of selling 5 cents LD vs. all the others who are pushing <9, but >5 cents/min does appear sensible in terms of grabbing customers early and proving their worth. I guess only time will tell if they can execute correctly. If you're willing to bet on them, you might as well bet on NextLink as well!
