Linda,

MM manipulation through these message boards is not an original idea of mine but I've heard about it being utilized from other sources and I believe it played some role in the downstretch prior to the announcement. Many other factors obviously contributed to RNTK's decline in the last 2 weeks as you mentioned including a purposeful delay in the announcement by Texaco according to Real_Estate_Speculator on the Yahoo thread:

Word on the street is that the deal would have been announced a couple of months ago, but Sexaco and others hit too close to the mark and spooked TX's securities attorneys into delaying the deal. Thanks a lot Sexaco.

If rumors of the deal were circulating around the TX offices I sure that the MMs knew about them too and exploited the negative dynamics of the market to get some cheap shares....I kept remembering the statement that "the stock market is designed to separate the average investor from his money" and suspected that something was about to happen. Luckily I was right but we came very close to the ultimate meltdown.

I, for one, am actually happy that RNTK didn't spike on the news because I knew I would never be nimble enough to sell at the top of the spike and rebuy when the price reconsolidated lower. I also believe, though, that many of the 6500 shareholders that waiting for the big RNTK payday sold in disgust the last 2 days on the news to free up some money for the days ahead.

In the final days it appears that RNTK may have forced TX into letting them release a limited news release about the deal in order to stop the price fall and they will now systematically release more chunks of information to help the stock slowly build some momentum. I hope RNTK won't resort to a reverse split (like SLHO did) to get the ball rolling. I think that the days ahead will show us all how good this deal actually was and we'll be rewarding with long-term, solid growth for years ahead.
