Team Cheever "Fast Tracks It" to Atlanta

Indy 500 Winner, Eddie Cheever, and Teammate, Robby Unser, are looking forward to the Inaugural Atlanta 500K Classic at Atlanta Motor Speedway
Atlanta, GA. -- Team Cheever loves 1.5-mile ovals. Especially if they're built by Bruton Smith and located deep in the heart of NASCAR country.
"Bruton knows how to build 'em fast, build 'em big, and build 'em with the race fan and the racing driver in mind," said Indy 500 winner, Eddie Cheever. "If the Atlanta race fan likes speed, we'll provide them quite a show come Saturday night!"
"The track is very smooth and quick," added teammate, Robby Unser. "It'll be a fun place to race because we'll be able to race two-wide. You can REALLY move here!"
The 1.54-mile paved quad-oval of the Atlanta Motor Speedway is known throughout the paddock as a smooth, rounded, and capable of generating speeds that have already topped the 228 m.p.h. mark. Though several teams, including Team Cheever, have tested here, it will be the first time the Pep Boys Indy Racing League open wheeled cars will have come to race. This time, it will be under the lights, Saturday night.
"It's gonna be one fast race when we go green," commented Leading IRL Rookie Unser. "I think the speeds will actually be faster in the race than in qualifying because you can get in a pack and run harder. On this track, when you are in traffic, you can get significant tow."
"You seem to stay in the corners forever. With the 24 degree banking and the radius of the turns, there is going to be alot of close racing," further explained Cheever, currently ranked 10th in the Drivers Points. "From our tire test, it was very evident that increasing horsepower and reducing drag are going to play a major role. Having a car that is consistent during the race will be the key to winning."
Round 9 of the 11-race Pep Boys IRL series, the inaugural Atlanta Classic 500 presented by MCI, takes shape August 27th-29th at the Atlanta Motor Speedway. The race starts at 9pm, August 29th and will be televised LIVE on TNN. Qualifying will air live on Speedvision, Friday, August 28th at 6pm.
