jbe,
Good post. I still think the OIC law is good. It keeps our politicians clean. It keeps our system of government fair. I think the points by former OIC Lawrence Walsh are good: That the OIC investigations should be limited to conduct while in office. This would clear out the Whitewater investigation but no others on Bill Clinton's tail. Corruption is the worst disease any democracy can face. If people lose faith in the legal institutions, their laws, and their leaders, the next stop is revolution or civil war. The United States is 222 years old this year. Lets hope that this great nation of laws shall not perish from the earth. I love being an American. It inspires pride in me. When I see the flag, I see respect for the law, the government, the nation, and its people. In asking that our politicians be faithful to the law and the Constitution, we ensure that our legacy will be passed onto our children and that their future in a great, respected nation is granted. In that light, I would say that if I was in the United States Senate this Spring, and I was heading up to the podium to cast my vote for impeachment of the President, I would say I was sorry for what Bill Clinton has brought upon himself, his family, his party, and his Nation, but that I could not vote for breech of the Constitution. I would have to vote for impeachment because it simply cannot be tolerated that anyone, not even the President, can lie under oath in a court of law. There simply would be no other option for me.
