I think Ascend is LU's first choice. If they paid 20 billion for the company it wouldn't be too much

$20B for ASND is equal to:

o About 16x ASND sales, or $100/share.

o About 25% of the market cap of LU itself. Purchasing ASND at $100 would cost LU about 317MM shares of LU, or 25% of the existing company. They would have to change the name to "Lucend" if not "Ascent" <Do I get credit for coining these terms even if I'm wrong?> Heck, LU's shareholders might well claim that McGinn indeed had a Lucend for paying so much.

o About triple the probable acquisition cost of NN, a company with about the same sales as ASND, but with DWDM and LMDS technologies.

I don't see it. I think LU likes ASND, but I also think that Mory wants a lot for the company, more than LU would pay.
