Well folks,
Some anecdotal, statistically insignificant, i.e., your silly to draw any conclusions from the following....
I dropped into Babbages to check out the 3Dfx section (Columbia, MD USA) as it's as much described by others, including the presence of TNT cards. I don't recall whether someone has mentioned this, but the sales guy at Babbages indicated that they have also received 3Dfx shirts that they're supposed to start wearing soon. (One would think that the dedicated shareholders might be sent t-shirts) I digress.
This particular Babbages received their first Banshee shipment this past Thursday (typically very small) 2 Fusions, 2 Ravens and 2 Creative cards. Diamond cards were gone that day, Ravens were gone within a couple of hours. I got the last Creative Card this afternoon. TNTs have been selling OK and he hasn't heard of any returns or complaints. He did, however, get a call from one of the Raven purchasers who wanted to pick up another one. (Anthony maybe your experience is isolated.)
I'll be popping over the the Creative Web site shortly, for updates, clues for anticipated problems etc., and I'll install the card tomorrow morning. Now I don't want to receive a ration of s**! from any Pentium II 450 or Celeron 300A users that overclock with SLI setups....I have an K6/233/64MRAM with a Matrox Mystique graphics card and I'm not a gamer and don't have a Voodoo card of any type (and probably don't classify even as a casual gamer.), but I'd like to report to you on what I find in terms of performance improvements. I do have NFL and NHL. Is there anything in particular that I should check for with before and after that would be useful information to have? Should I bother pulling down any benchmark software?
One last question, I would like to pick up a 3D game or two, just to have the "experience". Are there some games that you might recommend? I would be more interested in something that I could enjoy for short periods of time on an occasional basis, rather than something that requires me to invest long hours and highly developed eye/hand coordination skills. Though I might not object to any due diligence meetings, even if I do get blown away in three nanoseconds.
Your advice and counsel is appreciated.
