Christine, the reason I am sighing is because I have spent far too much time over the past couple of weeks on the Sanity thread (Clinton scandal). In actual fact, given the amount of yelling and screaming going on there, it should probably be renamed the Insanity thread.

I try to be a Voice of Reason (there are others that also try, fortunately). But I am just about talked out on the subject. You want to know what I think about it? Come on over.

Meanwhile, let me address your specific question, which is a good one. How can Americans be fixated on the President's genitals, if over 60% of them say they want "the mess" to end?

In the first place, I was not the one who said Americans were so fixated; that was purething. You should properly address your question to him. But let me suggest one possible answer to it:

We do not have mutually exclusive attitudes here. I might for example, get a lot of titillation from reading about the President's sex life, but at the same time want the POLITICAL mess surrounding his sex life to end. In other words, liking juicy bits about sex does not imply a similar taste for impeachment hearings, and still less for what the hearings might lead to. Apples and oranges.
