Daniel, I think CSCO has pretty much ruled out a takeover of CIEN with some rather harshly worded statements about the company. Of course, at the right price, anything is possible.
ASND currently has a partnership with Pirelli, and has been often mentioned as buyout fodder for LU, which if it happened would provide them with internal DWDM technology.
Even with these problems, I think the current major issue with a CIEN buyout is that Nettles thinks the company is worth more than it is. If he decides to wait a year, and in that year, he returns the company to profitability and growth, then he will have been proven correct. However, if things don't work out as planned, he won't be able to give the company away.
