Jbe, my basic belief is that economic cycles ebb and flow, and that presidents have a little, but really very limited, impact on them. Some presidents get lucky, and hit the right part of a cycle, and some do not. On the other hand, this administration has a very pro-globalization economic strategy, one that I do not share.

I think all of this was coming. We made false assumptions about global economies, and see now that they are untrue. We also made false assumptions about "new paradigms" and assumed we were immune to the normal rhythms of financial markets. The new technological age is governed by the law of supply and demand just like earlier ones, after all.

I guess that in Egypt and other very restrictive cultures, the Starr report might be titillating in comparison to the normal state of sexual repression. I hope they don't think that all the women in western societies really prefer cigars for sex, however!!
