OT, again, Sorry, I unintentionally oversimplified the situation. I can imagine that the godless commies would have trouble coming up with a puritanical policy on sex. From what I recall, they always wanted all the children they could get. But lack of access to birth control is bad and always puts a heavy burden on women. I'm obviously not a student of Russia, but I've heard that in large part the Soviet Union was closer to third world standards than first world, with everywhere but Moscow being quite primitive in many things we take for granted.
I'm sure things are worse now than they were in the heyday of the evil empire, and will get worse still before they get better. Makes Bill Clinton's problems look like child's play. For someone close to the situation, it must be very sad.
Here, of course, access to birth control isn't really a problem, but education is. Somehow, I can't see the people most offended by abortion doing much to improve that situation, or allowing anybody else to do much either.
Cheers, Dan. |
