CUPERTINO, Calif., Dec. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Symantec Corp announced today the general availability of Visual Cafe Pro, the latest in Symantec's comprehensive suite of Internet development tools. Visual Cafe Pro is the first fully-integrated Visual Rapid Application Development tool for Java and database application solutions and provides distributed database access from anywhere on the Web using only a Java-enabled browser. Additionally, Symantec announced its support for JavaSoft's JDK 1.1 and Java Beans. Symantec is committed to using its experience with Java development tools to support Windows and Macintosh developers by evaluating new Internet technologies, then rapidly incorporating the best of these technologies into its winning tools to provide the most complete tools for web application development.
Symantec Visual Cafe Pro(TM) is the first Visual Rapid Application Development (RAD) tool for developing applets and applications that connect to relational databases. Wizards make Java database application development a snap by automatically creating forms on top of existing database tables, as well as creating typical web forms and tables. In addition, the developer can quickly view and access database structures and create custom forms by visually dragging and dropping fields to database forms. This is further facilitated by the inclusion of dbAWARE components in the Component Library which are used as building blocks to develop database applications.
Symantec Visual Cafe Pro includes a local relational database engine to get developers up and running quickly. It also incorporates Symantec dbANYWHERE(TM) Workgroup Server, Symantec's new middleware application database server technology that allows Java programs to
access corporate databases over the Intranet/Internet using a set of APIs that includes JavaSoft's JDBC API ang? distributed databases access from anywhere on the Web. dbANYWHERE any Java enabled browser. dbANYWHERE includes fully-licensed drivers for Sybase SQL Anywhere and Microsoft Access (connection only limited by SQL Anywhere or Access). Symantec Visual Cafe Pro(TM) for Windows is currently available for ordering on the Symantec website (http://cafe.symantec.com) and is available in the retail channel for an estimated retail price (ERP) of US $499.95. Visual Cafe Pro is designed to run on Windows 95 and indows NT 3.51 and NT 4.0. Registered users will receive email notification when revisions of JDK is available on the Symantec website.
