I will try and do my best to relay some of the information I was able to gather while talking with Jim Crehan.....The picture found in the investors packet is a bit misleading. The cap (top) of the CAPSCAN is 5 inches in diameter with a slightly wider brim surrounding it...and the current model they had at the show was about 6-8 inches in length....they've improved the mechanics and the new model is only going to be 2-2 1/2 inches in lenght...kind of similar to the gas cap to your car..only a bit larger.

NOW...here's where we were all wrong...that is the entire cap!!!! The tube projection shown on the picture is misleading. I found out that every UST has a tube as part of it's construction which is 5 inches in diameter and extends from the fill cap to within 6 inches off the bottom of the UST. within this tube, the floatation device will be dropped...I think it's 18 inches in length and 2 1/2 inches in diameter. This will be dropped into the UST and will be left there. This bullet shaped device will be housing a sonar which will send the signals up to the cap when activated by the hand held computer. This bullet shaped cyclinder is made out of polished metal (forgot the specific type) and is sealed...with an air chamber above and below the electronics to make sure it floats within the product. On the top of this will be an antenna which will loop around the top, so that when it needs to be replaced, it can be caught by lowering a hook into the tube....remember, it's not able to float around the UST because of the permanent PVC piping that is a part of the UST.

The CAPSCAN will corrode with time. It is guaranteed for 2 years and with some insurance coverage a third will be covered before it will need to be replaced.

This new design I liked because with a part of the CAPSCAN IN the UST, theft will not occur and bulky removal of the cap with an extended tube as a permanent fixture to it will not suffer handling damage...which could be numerous...effectively being subjected to handling with every fill up...

and there's more...
