John,
Thanks for your helpful input. The PT2006 appears to be a very recent board, since FIC does not even list it as a product in their web site yet, but I'll dial into their bbs to check it out. I was careful to follow the instructions regarding the fan, though I can't feel a strong wind blowing towards the regulator. I haven't had any system lockup problems yet, so I must be OK. The extra 256K simm cache module I'm using came with the board, so I hope I'm not naive in assuming that it should work well (so far, except for the lousy floating point numbers from the shareware Bench32 I downloaded, I have not have any problems.) Also I AM using the IBM chip under strong advise from others. THanks again - you clearly know what you're talking about and I welcome your feedback, solicited or not.
Judging from your earlier posts, I take it you're not upbeat about Cyrix future. Sounds like I've gotten lucky in getting the chip up quick and easy without timing / heat dissipation / compatibility issues. Am I the exception rather than the rule? Does the 6x86 present big reliability and compatibility problems relative to the Pentium? Would this explain why I'm not seeing a lot of commercial acceptance of the chip by the likes of Packard Bell, Gateway, Compaq, Dell, etc.?
Also, there is conspicuous absence of pre-intro hype regarding the M2. Is the intro date in trouble?
Would like to hear your valuable input. |
